This is the original page to describe the benefit concert for the late, great Greg Davis. For a reporter's eye of the show, Read This.
The Benefit concert will be held at the Brookdale Lodge on Hwy 9, from 6:00pm 'til after midnight, on Saturday, September 18th.
This is a community event where we may gather for the support of Greg Davis and his sweetheart Patty Kiner in their time of need. Greg was diagnosed with a fatal neurological disease a few months ago. He will not recover. Patty has taken her role as caregiver very seriously, and is tending to Greg full time. Greg and Patty are familiar faces at the Bluegrass festivals in this area.
Greg has been a bluegrass musician and supporter for as long as we've known him; at least 15 years. He's been a member of the Lunatic Fringe, was a founding member of the infamous Psycho-Girlfriend-Boys, last seen at one of the first Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festivals. He's been there from the start either on stage with one of the most incredible voices you've ever heard, or behind the stage, helping what ever was needed. Greg and Patty were often seen lending their time to help at the Otter Opera in Santa Cruz. Greg was always sitting in with fellow musicians and giving it all of his heart. We all remember Patty helping out in the hospitality suite at the Brookdale, or dancing to the music with the zeal of a tireless bluegrass fan. Greg Davis grew up in Watsonville, his family was also in San Jose later in life. He has two adult children Matthew and Michael who both have families; he has grandchildren from both boys. Patty Kiner has been Greg's companion for the last 12 years. Greg worked for the county of Santa Cruz for over 20 years.
Let's show him we care while he's still with us. With music, love, and camaraderie, we celebrate our friend who must leave us too soon. The financial burden is part of the tragedy they are facing, and one that we can reduce with our generous contributions, starting with the modest $10 admission to this event.
